Rikard Karlberg Looks Back at 2013

Reflecting on his 2013 season, it is no surprise that popular Swedish star Rikard Karlberg picked the King’s Cup Golf Hua Hin which was staged at the Black Mountain Golf Club as his favourite tournament of the year. When Karlberg is not playing competitively, he regularly trains at Black Mountain, which has everything a professional golfer needs including world-class facilities and an excellent golf course for him to play on. In this short Q&A, Karlberg talks about the highs-and-lows in his 2013 season. Can you reflect on your 2013 season? It was a steady season. I wanted to win but my mental game wasn’t where I wanted it to be when I was in contention heading into the final round. I’m pretty disappointed with that but I’ll keep working on it. My game has grown and I’ve certainly become a better player. What was the highlight for you? The CJ Invitational Hosted by KJ Choi was the highlight for me
because I was struggling with my game. I fell back on the leaderboard on the last day but it was still the highlight for me. Finishing second at the King’s Cup Golf Hua Hin was also an achievement for me. What was the low point for you? I was disappointed I didn’t win the CJ Invitational Hosted by KJ Choi. I felt really sad when I was in the locker room because I was so disappointed I didn’t take my chance to win the event. It is funny how the CJ Invitational was the highlight and low point for me! If you could re-hit one shot, what shot would that be? I would re-hit my tee shot on the seventh hole on the final round of the CJ Invitational Hosted by KJ Choi. What was your favourite tournament of 2013? It has to be the King’s Cup Golf Hua Hin because I live here and the Black Mountain golf course is in great shape. What have you learned about yourself in 2013? I have to relax more and enjoy my game. I tend to get nervous as well so I need to learn how to handle that. Which aspect of your game will you practise during the off-season? I will practice a lot on my tee shots and chipping. Who do you think is the next big star on the Asian Tour? I played with Jazz Janewattananond before and he has a good game. I think he will be the next big star.
