Thongchai denied victory in Germany

Black Mountain’s Thongchai Jaidee was denied a place in a four-man play-off by one shot after he closed with a seven-under-par 65 to take a share of fifth place at the BMW International Open on Sunday. Victory would have been Thongchai’s second win on European soil in a month since his victory at the Nordea Masters.

The Thai, who signed off with a four-day total of 18-under-par 270, was nevertheless still pleased with his battling performance at the European Tour event which was won by Paraguay’s Fabrizio Zanotti.

“I played really well this week. The weather and course conditions were perfect. I was happy to be in contention again and I knew I had to get to nine or 10-under to stand any chance of winning. It’s okay. I still enjoyed myself today with a bogey-free round,” said Thongchai.

Alex Cejka also had a week to remember when he finished in tied-12^th on home soil.

“I’m very pleased with my performance. I played well, I putted well and everything was good. I struggled on the 18^th hole yesterday and today. Those were stupid mistakes and if you were to take out those three dropped shots, I would have been way up there.

It has been a great week as I managed to catch up with my friends and family,” said Cejka.
