Jazz cards second 70 in Manila

Thailand’ Jazz Janewattananond will head into the weekend rounds seven shots back of leaders Mardan Mamat of Singapore and Korea’s Wang Jeung-hun after carding another successive two-under-par 70 at the second round of the Resorts World Manila Masters.

The Black Mountain sponsored player double-bogeyed the par-four second but recovered quickly with two birdies on holes three and four. He mixed two more bogeys against another birdie on eight to turn in 37.

The inward-nine was more promising for the 18-year-old as he cruised home with a flawless 33 that was highlighted by three birdies on holes 11, 15 and 17 at the US$1 million Asian Tour event.

“Happy to shoot a 70 despite a double bogey on the second. I’ve got to keep up to better my results from last year,” said Jazz, who finished tied for fifth at last year’s edition.

American Berry Henson made up for his opening round disappointment where he signed for a 74 with an improved 68.

Prom Meesawat, who was denied victory in a play-off defeat last year, battled to a 72 to make it into the weekend rounds right at the cut-line which was set at one-over par.

Over in Spain, Sweden’s Rikard Karlberg and Pelle Edberg earned his European Tour cards when they signed off Qualifying School with matching 71s for ninth and 21^st place respectively.
