Johan Edfors, Rikard Karlberg and Jazz Janewattananond of Thailand were hard at work on Labour Day when they shot matching two-under-par 70s at The Championship in Singapore on Thursday.
The Black Mountain sponsored trio were tied in 63rd position on a low scoring day where Thailand’s Panuphol Pittayarat raced ahead of the pack with a sensational 63 in the event which is sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour.
Edfors enjoyed a fast start in his opening round where he was five-under through 11 holes before stumbling with one double bogey and one bogey on holes three and four respectively to slip back on the leaderboard.
Meanwhile Jazz had to recover from two early bogeys by shooting four straight birdies starting from the sixth hole before adding one bogey and one birdie on his inward nine.
Ranked second on the Asian Tour Order of Merit, Karlberg will need a superlative effort in the second round to make a move on the leaderboard after mixing his card with three birdies against one bogey on day one.
