Black Mountain’s Johan Edfors posted a two-under-par 70 to stay three shots back of Scotland’s Scott Henry at the Madeira Islands Open while Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee will not feature in the weekend rounds after signing for another 73 at the Players Championship.

The two Black Mountain sponsored players had contrasting fortunes as Edfors stayed in the hunt for his fourth win on the European Tour while Thongchai’s third appearance at the unofficial fifth Major was once again cut short.

First round play in Portugal was abandoned on the opening day without a ball being struck due to heavy fog.

But when it got underway, Edfors came out strongly with two birdies in his first four holes.  He dropped a shot on the fifth but recovered quickly with another birdie on nine to turn in 34.

The Swede then traded three bogeys against three birdies in his inward-nine before settling for a 70.

Thongchai meanwhile had a day to forget when he marked his card with three bogeys against two birdies at the TPC Sawgrass to miss the weekend cut by two shots.
