Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand put up a strong opening act at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational on Thursday.

The Black Mountain sponsored player was in the red as he marked his card with two birdies against one bogey.

He was on the verge of returning with an under-par round but had to settle for an even-par 70 when he disappointingly bogeyed the last hole at the Firestone Country Club.

Thongchai, ranked 33rd on the Official World Golf Ranking, is still in position to make a move on the leaderboard as he trails the first round leader Marc Leishman of Australia by six shots.
