“It is an honour to win the King’s and Queen’s trophy”

Prayad blog: Hua Hin, Thailand, January 19:
It could not have been a more prestigious honour for Prayad Marksaeng to become the first ever Thai player to win the King’s and Queen’s trophy.

Beaming with pride, Prayad, who turns 48 on January 30, 2014, sealed the deal with a sensational final round six-under-par 66 to defeat Black Mountain Golf Club sponsored player Rikard Karlberg of Sweden by one shot.

Having won the Queen’s Cup in June last year, Prayad was on a mission to ensure that both prestigious trophies remain in Thailand.

Following his popular victory that was watched by a huge gallery a the Black Mountain Golf Club, Prayad celebrated his win at the US$1 million King’s Cup Golf Hua Hin by jumping into the greenside lake by the ninth green.

Not many people will know this, but Prayad’s victory which earned him US$180,000 meant that the Thai has now earned over US$3 million on the Asian Tour!

In this blog, Prayad talks about winning even more trophies and playing some of his best golf this week:

“I feel proud because both the King’s and Queen’s trophies are in Thailand. It makesme especially happy and proud because I’m the first Thai to win two of these very important trophies.

I made par on 12 and I saw that I was trailing the leader by a few strokes. I told myself that it was fine because I can still chase the leader. Then I eagled the 13th hole and Rikard bogeyed the same hole. That was the turning point in the round.

I started from three shots back and honestly, that wasn’t a problem because anything can happen on this golf course. I felt really good at the start of the round and I got off to a great start when I birdied one and two.

I wasn’t very worried in my round today except for the 11th hole which is a very difficult hole to play on. I made par there and the rest was just routine golf.

I’m getting older and this is my eighth Asian Tour win. I want to win as many more as I can before I turn 50!”
