Black Mountain Blog: Ready for more action?

April 2: There is never a dull day at the Black Mountain Golf Club. This week, we will host some of the best Scandinavian golfers at the Black Mountain Invitational by Nordea which is part of the Nordea Tour.

The three-day event will be played in a pro-am format where 28 professional golfers will be paired with three amateurs in their group.

The Black Mountain Invitational offers a prize purse of 416,000 Sek (approximately 2.08 million Baht) with a total of 66,000 Sek going to the winner.

As a warm-up before the tournament, Black Mountain staged a shootout competition on the superb par-three course which was won by Swedish veteran Jocke Rask.

Rask, a three-time winner on the European Challenge Tour, was delighted to start the week on a winning note.

“It was a fun competition. It was a little bit different. I think we were all more nervous because we are not familiar with this sort of competition!” Rask laughed.

“When the real tournament begins, you really need to be straight off the tees. The greens at Black Mountain are tricky so you need to be very accurate with the driver,” he explained.

Rask will face a host of talented players including David Palm, the big-hitting Jesper Kennegard, Nils Floren, Malcolm Kokocinski and young gun Gustaf Kocken.

Kocken enjoyed a solid practice round where he shot seven birdies but the Swede played down his chances of winning the event on the challenging Black Mountain course.

“I had a good game. The course is wonderful and it is nice to be back. You need to have a good score here. The wind will pick up in the afternoon and you need to hit your ball straight. I think putting will be the key here. There are lot of good players but I think Jesper (Kennegard) will have a good chance to win,” said Kocken.
