Karlberg gets off to fine start in Switzerland

Rikard Karlberg of Sweden settled for a two-under-par 70 in the opening round of the Omega European Masters after saving par on the last hole on Thursday. The Black Mountain sponsored player opened with a birdie before adding further birdies on holes 10 and 13. He was in trouble on 18 but escaped with a par to trail the leader Richie Ramsay of Scotland by six shots.

“My game was solid. I missed a few putts but I’m pretty happy with my start. The 16^th hole is such a tough hole and 18 was tough as well,” said Karlberg, who is tied for 36^th.

“When you are playing well and shooting under-par, you feel like it is a walk in the park but when your confidence is not so high, you know you have to fight for your score.”

This is the most beautiful scenery we have for the year. It is incredible with the trees and the Alps with snow in the background.

This is my fifth year here and I’ve been to a few places for sightseeing. Now I just enjoy the good food and have a good time with other players.

I’ve been playing very solid this year. The only cut I missed was in Indonesia and Spain. I hope that I will get a win soon. It has been four years since my double victories on the Asian Tour so I hope that I can get the win this week.

I’m not feeling impatient. As long as I play good golf, I know the win will come sooner or later. When you feel that your game is getting better, you know that the big win is around the corner.
