Karlberg’s Hong Kong blog: The feeling’s amazing!

Sweden’s Rikard Karlberg enjoyed his best round of the week when he closed with a four-under-par 66 at the Hong Kong Open to finish in tied-20th place.

The Black Mountain sponsored Swede was clearly elated his performance in Hong Kong has earned him a place in the US$7 million CIMB Classic- an Asian Tour and PGA Tour co-sanctioned event which will take place in Malaysia at the end of the month.

We caught up with Karlberg in Hong Kong who shared with us his joy and how he still managed to put up a worthy performance despite recovering from a viral infection.

“I’m very happy with how I played today. I holed lots of great putts and I love it especially when you can actually see the line and sink those putts.

I missed that feeling as the last time I felt that way was in India earlier this year and seeing those putts drop was really great.

I woke up today and told myself to let it go and don’t think too much about the last few rounds.

I’m playing for a spot at the CIMB Classic and my performance this week has got me there. It feels great!

I’m really excited about the CIMB Classic. I haven’t really played in a PGA Tour event, only two US Opens. I played well at the Kuala Lumpur Golf Club earlier this year and it feels amazing to be able to go back there to compete again.

I still have muscle ache and I’ve been told to just relax as much as I can.

I cannot practise too much as it’ll aggravate some kind of virus that I have within.

I hope I can be well soon as I’m still not 100% recovered. It’s a viral infection which has forced me to be on antibiotics all the time.

That probably explains why I’m feeling so weak. Hopefully I’ll recover soon.
