Yates in contention at Dubai Open

Scotland’s Simon Yates fired a second round five-under-par 67 to put himself in prime position to secure a third Asian Tour win at the Dubai Open on Friday. The Black Mountain sponsored player was cruising along nicely when he marked his card with seven birdies in 16 holes before dropping a double bogey on the penultimate hole at the US$500,000 Asian Tour event.

His two-day total of six-under-par 138 was a shot back from the co-leaders Shiv Kapur of India and Thailand’s Pavit Tangkamolprasert.

A two-time winner on the Asian Tour but not since 2004, Yates will need to continue his good run of form to end his title drought and secure an emphatic victory in what is the final Asian Tour event in 2014.
