Thongchai confident of victory at EurAsia Cup

Black Mountain sponsored player Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand is confident of defeating a start studded European team when he leads out Team Asia at the inaugural EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM which starts on Thursday.

Long regarded as the natural choice for captaincy because of his illustrious record and experience, Thongchai knows his team is capable of pulling off a victory over Europe which is led by Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez and also includes Ryder Cup stars such as Graeme McDowell and Thomas Bjorn.

“We have a very complete team and I believe we stand a good chance of winning the trophy. It’s all about team work and there is a rich mix of youth and experience that will guide the team to victory,” said Thongchai.

The decorated Thai ace holds three Asian Tour Order of Merit titles and has won 13 times on the Asian Tour. While he recognizes that Team Europe is strong on paper, he believes his side can still triumph over his continental rivals on Saturday.

“Europe has a very strong team. Graeme McDowell has a good track record in Match Play and Miguel, with his vast experience, is a good captain. But I know our team has what it takes to win this tournament and I’m confident,” said Thongchai.

The EurAsia Cup is based on a format similar to the Ryder Cup where the teams will go head-to-head in the fourball format on day one, foursomes on day two before culminating with the singles on the final day.
