We’ll try again tomorrow, says Thongchai

Black Mountain sponsored player Thongchai Jaidee believes Team Asia can still stage a comeback after they suffered a 5-0 defeat to Europe in the opening fourballs format at the EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM on Thursday.

Although Thongchai admitted that Team Europe were in a class of their own, the captain knows his team can still surmount a challenge in the Ryder Cup-style showdown in Malaysia.

“The European team is more experienced than us and they played really well. They made lots of birdies and eagles and their putting was unbelievable,” said Thongchai.

“However, we will work really hard tomorrow. I’ve made some changes to the pairings and have told my team to believe in themselves. Hopefully we can pull this off together,” said Thongchai.

Thongchai partnered fellow countryman Kiradech Aphibarnrat and lost 2 & 1 to Team Europe’s captain Miguel Angel Jiménez of Spain who was paired with compatriot Pablo Larrazábal.

The EurAsia Cup is based on a format similar to the Ryder Cup where the teams will go head-to-head in the fourball format on day one, foursomes on day two before culminating with the singles on the final day.
