Petersson gets deserved start
It was an opening start that he had hoped for.
Marking his card with six birdies, one eagle and a bogey, Sweden’s Thomas Petersson took pole position atop the leaderboard with a seven-under-par 65 at the Black Mountain Invitational by Nordea.
The event which offers a prize purse of 416,000 Sek (approximately 2.08 million Baht) is part of the Nordea Tour and welcomes some of the best Scandinavian golfers to the Black Mountain Golf Club this week.
While it’s still early days, Petersson will be on a mission to win the trophy and take home the winner’s purse of 66,000 Sek.
He will however have to fend off the challenges of compatriots Nils Floren and Black Mountain sponsored player Pelle Edberg who are in second (66) and third place (67) respectively.
Edberg did not get off to the best of starts when he bogeyed his second hole. However he recovered well to fire seven more birdies against another bogey on the 12th hole to stay within sights of Petersson.
“I started off pretty poor and was one-over through six but I made two birdies on seven and nine and finished off four-under in the last five holes for five-under today. I was hitting lots of good shots and I managed to take advantage of the birdie holes coming down the stretch.
Putting will definitely be the key to winning this tournament and I hope that I’ll be right up there on Saturday,” said Edberg.
The three-day event is played in a pro-am format where 28 professional golfers will be paired with three amateurs in their group.
