Thongchai’s blog: It’s going to be a good week

April 11: Black Mountain sponsored player Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand stayed on course of making the cut at the Masters for the first time in three appearances after he opened his campaign at Augusta National Golf Club with a solid one-over-par 73.

The Thai star’s previous visits to Augusta National Golf Club in 2006 and 2010 all ended with him missing the weekend cut. However an encouraging 73 saw him end the day in tied 27th position, five shots behind American leader Bill Haas.

Thongchai reflects on his opening efforts which have given him the belief that it is going to be a good week.

“My round was good today I shot 73 and I’m content. My game was actually quite good overall but some errors especially the fifth and sixth holes where I had two bad chips and three putted. It was disappointing because I was on a good run early in the round.

The course condition is perfect. The challenges are the short game around the green you need to perfect the chipping otherwise it cost you strokes. The greens are pretty tough too.”
