Yates makes an ace, Henson shoots 70

Simon Yates of Scotland shot an ace in the opening round of the Thailand Golf Championship while Berry Henson fired a solid two-under-par 70 on Thursday.

Yates aced the third hole with a six-iron but failed to build on his hole-in-one as he returned with a 73 to tie for 60th place alongside Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand. Unfortunately for Yates, there was no prize on offer for his efforts.

Henson was the best placed Black Mountain sponsored player in the US$1million Asian Tour event as he fired three birdies against one bogey to sit in tied 23rd place.

“Stayed super patient today after some early misses to shoot two-under,” said Henson, who trailed the leader Jamie Donaldson of Wales by seven shots.
