Top Seed Meesawat Falls In Matchplay
Black Mountain’s brand ambassador Prom Meesawat was not successful in progressing through to the final stages of the match-play round at the 2018 ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth, Australia.
He was the top seed but luck was not on his side as he fell out towards the final stages of the tournament.
While Meesawat did not make the grade, fellow compatriot Kiradech Aphibarnrat once again proved that he was world-class as he pulled himself together and outlasted the final round field to claim the title.
After three days of stroke play, Aphibarnrat managed to wiggle into the final round for the knock-out match-play format. For his win, the Thai super star banked a check for AUD$283,330.
In the final round of match-play, Aphibarnrat KO’ed Australia’s James Nitties 2-1.
The ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth is a unique event – there is a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties. Then there is a 54-hole cut to exactly the top 24, with playoffs to figure out the placement and seeding for a tournament of six-hole match play on Sunday. The top eight players in stroke-play qualifying get a first-round bye, before playing down to a champion.
